PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device by which two polarization maintaining optical fibers are easily brought into contact with each other with high accuracy. SOLUTION: Two polarization maintaining optical fibers (fibers) 40A, 40B are held, on their outer sides, between a pair of parallel members 10a, 10b arranged orthogonally to the lines 43, 44, with the parallel members brought relatively close to each other while kept in parallel. The fibers 40A, 40B, with the parallelism of the lines 43, 44 maintained, are moved in the manner that one fiber 40B rides on the other fiber 40A. When the interval between the parallel members 10a, 10b coincides with the diameter of the fiber 40A or 40B, the parallel members 10a, 10b no longer come close to each other. In this state, the lines 43, 44 are vertical to a line 46, bringing the two fibers 40A, 40B into proper contact with each other. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
