PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wedge-shaped optical fiber working method and a device therefor that prevent an optical fiber from breaking by excessive bend and from degrading in working efficiency and that excel in precision and yield. SOLUTION: An optical fiber 1 is held in a holder 4 with a prescribed length made to project. This optical fiber is inclined at a specific angleαso that the contact angle with a ground surface 5 becomes a specific contact angleθin a first inclining direction. The optical fiber 1 is relatively moved in a first advancing direction by a cooperating motion between the X stage 8 and the ground surface 5, with the tip end of the optical fiber 1 polished by sliding it on the ground surface 5. After that, the optical fiber is inclined at a specific angleαso that the contact angle with the ground surface 5 becomes the specific contact angleθin a second inclining direction. Then, the motion is repeated more than once in which the optical fiber 1 is relatively moved in a second advancing direction, with the tip end of the optical fiber 1 made to slide on the ground surface 5.
