PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical connector that can prevent signal light transmission efficiency from lowering. SOLUTION: The optical connector 1 is equipped with a ferrule 2, a connector housing 3 and a spacer 4. The ferrule 2 has a plurality of flanges 10, 11, 12. The connector housing 3 has a storing chamber 16 for storing the ferrule 2 and a clamping part 17 for clamping the ferrule 2. The spacer 4 is attachable to the connector housing 3 at a position allowing the entry of the ferrule 2 into the connector housing 3 and at a position controlling the falling-off of the ferrule 2 from the connector housing. With the spacer 4 set at the allowing position, the ferrule 2 is inserted into the connector housing 3 along the arrow T. Then, the spacer 4 is moved along the arrow S crossing at right angles to the arrow T and displaced to the controlling position. At the controlling position, the flanges 10, 12 are superposed, each being at the faces 10a, 12a, on the surface 13e of the connector housing 3 and on the end face 17a of the clamping part 17 respectively.
