<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display apparatus for enhancing display characteristics and to provide a method for manufacturing the display apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A TFT array substrate is provided with a switching element formed on a first substrate, an insulating layer inserted between the TFT array substrate and a first electrode and a first alignment layer formed on the first electrode. A contact hole 135 defined as a side wall part having a first side wall having at least one inclined face forming a first inclined angle with respect to the first substrate and a second side wall facing the first side wall is formed in the insulating layer. The first alignment layer is rubbed in a first direction from the first side wall to the second side wall.
