PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To composite images for acquiring natural images without being restricted by the position, shape, or the like of an object. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus comprises a lens optical system 12 for taking a picture of the object together with a background scene and a picture of only the background without the subject and, a CCD 13, a sample-holding circuit 16, an A/D converter 17, a color process circuit 18, a DMA controller 19 for storing acquired image data, a DRAM interface 20, a DRAM 21, and a control unit 22 for extracting only image data of the object from image data of the object and the background and that of only background, which are stored in the DRAM 21, to superimpose it on other image data stored in the DRAM 21 for compositing.
