SOLUTION: Optical fibers coated with polyimide 1 and 1' are so held with an optical fiber holding tools Ha and Hb that the optical fibers are made tightly contact with each other in parallel, the polyimide coatings 4 and 4' are removed by sublimating with heat by partially heating with a torch T, and the exposed clads 3 and 3' are welded by heat and stretched.
