PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device and an imaging method which can reduce remarkably a time necessary for convergence to adequate luminance by using a simple method. SOLUTION: When a user selects an initial luminance adjustment amount setting mode by a mode key operation of a key input 18 disposed in a digital camera 10, an initial luminance adjustment amount setting image 20 is displayed, instead of an initial image on a liquid crystal image plate of an LCD unit 16. In this state, the user inputs and sets an arbitrary initial luminance adjustment amount by cursor key operation. The input and set initial luminance adjustment amount is preserved and stored in a nonvolatile storage device 17. When the user turns off a power source by operating a power source on/off key and again turns on the power source, a luminance adjustment operation to an image pickup 11 is started by using the initial luminance adjustment amount preserved and stored in the storage device 17.
