PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a thermoplastic resin composition which is excellent in mechanical properties, dimensional stability and resistance to heat and exhibits excellent physical properties at a high temperature, and a thermoplastic resin composition obtained by the manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the thermoplastic resin composition comprises at least the process 1 in which 100 pts.wt. of a thermoplastic resin (1) having a kneadable temperature of≤300°C and 1-150 pts.wt. of a layered silicate containing a cationic surfactant are kneaded at a temperature of≤300°C to produce a resin composition (A) and the process 2 in which a thermoplastic resin (2) having a kneadable temperature of≥300°C and the resin composition (A) are kneaded at a temperature of≥300°C.
