PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ether compound represented by formula (3) (R<SP>1</SP>is a benzyl group which may be substituted with a halogen atom, a 3,3-dihalo-2-propenyl group or the like; R<SP>2</SP>is a hydrogen atom or the like) in a high yield. SOLUTION: An alcohol compound represented by formula (1) is reacted with a pyridine compound represented by formula (2) and an alkali metal hydride in a hydrocarbon compound to give the ether compound represented by general formula (3) in the high yield.
