Cardioprotective composition comprising ceruloplasmin and uses thereof

A cardioprotective composition comprises pyruvate, at least one antioxidant, at least one lipid and ceruloplasmin. The components are present in an amount as to have a synergistic cardioprotective effect on cardiac cells. Preferably the lipid is a fatty acid selected from mono-, di- or triglycerides and the antioxidant is selected from vitamin E. vitamin A or carotene. The composition can be used as the active agent in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of cardiac cells to treat heart attack/failure, ischemic cardiopathy or heart oxidative stress related conditions. The composition can also be used for the treatment in vitro of cardiac cells, preferably for the conversation of heart before transplantation.
