PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk device for restricting an erroneous writing into an adjacent track when an impact or a vibration occurs. SOLUTION: The disk device is provided with an off track detecting area for detecting an off track between servo areas with continuous servo areas of information tracks (a) in a disk shape information recording medium. When data are recorded in a data area based on a write gate (c), a signal recorded in the off track detecting area is reproduced based on a read gate (d). When the reproducing output level is lowered to be equal to or less than a threshold, data recording is stopped by determining the occurrence of the off track. Even in an area other than the one for reading position information of a servo area based on a servo gate (b), the off track of a head can be detected. Thus, when the off track is detected, recording is stopped so as to be able to prevent adjacent track data from being lost. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
