PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system effective, for example, when autofocus (AF) is desired to be used only for a short time or when the focus is desired to be purposefully blurred by manual focus (MF) during the focus adjustment by the AF by forming the system so as to switch the system to the focus adjustment by the MF when an operation of the MF is carried out during the focus adjustment by the AF and thereafter to prevent the system from being switched to the focus adjustment by the AF unless an AF start switch is turned on. SOLUTION: A focus demand 28 is provided with an AF mode switch for selecting the AF mode and selects, for example, the continuous AF mode by this AF mode switch. As a result, a CPU 30 switches the continuous AF to the MF in the case of the presence of the focus demand 28 and switches the MF to the continuous AF when the AF start switch of the focus demand 28 is turned on.
