PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform speed change smoothly in an automatic transmission based on the constitution of a manual speed change gear. SOLUTION: A main shaft 6 is coupled to an input shaft 5 to be coupled with an engine through an input clutch 9, and a plurality of speed change gear trains 11 to 16 are provided between the input shaft 5 and the output shaft 7 and between the main shaft 6 and the output shaft 7. The speed change gear train provided between the main shaft 6 and the output shaft 7 is switched to a power transmission status by claw clutches 21 and 22 and the speed change gear train provided between the input shaft 5 and the output shaft 7 is switched to a power transmission status by friction clutches 24 and 25. Speed changing is conducted by switching the engagement of an input clutch 9 with the friction clutches 24 and 25. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
