PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent inclination of a rotating member of an automatic tensioner. SOLUTION: An oscillation shaft 40 is fixed to a base 30, and a cup part 52 of the rotating member 50 is rotatably disposed around the oscillation shaft 40. The cup part 52 opens in the base 30, and a twisted coil spring 80 for energizing a pulley 60 in the direction of tensioning a belt is stored in the cup part. A damping member 90 for braking the rotating member 50 is fixed to the base 30 and is closely attached to the inner surface 52b near the opening of the cup part 52 by a ring-shaped spring 92. The damping member 90 frictionally slides on the inner surface 52b when the rotating member 50 rotates, and supports the rotating member 50 on the base 30 side in the radial direction by a bearing part 54 for supporting the oscillation shaft 40.
