A method for collecting and storing a biological sample, comprising: (a) providing a sampling strip, one face of which has an absorbent area impregnated with a DNA stabilising composition, and an adhesive area, the other face of which covers and protects the sampling area, (b) collecting a biological sample on the absorbent area, (c) providing an identification substrate having a surface area to receive the sampling strip, (d) applying the sampling strip containing the biological sample to the substrate so that the absorbent area is enveloped between the outer face of the strip and the substrate, (e) marking the substrate and/or the sampling strip either before or after, during or after the applying stage with indicia to identify the source of the biological sample, and (f) storing the combined marked substrate/strip.
