PURPOSE: A three electrode surface discharge type AC plasma display panel is provided to reduce the size of a driving unit. CONSTITUTION: According to the three electrode surface discharge type AC plasma display panel, a number of first and second display electrodes and a number of address electrodes are arranged on a panel(50). A control/data processing unit(51) generates a driver control signal by receiving a synchronous signal, and performs data processing by receiving field data. An address electrode driving unit(53) drives the above address electrodes by being controlled by the control/data processing unit. The first scan electrode driving unit(52) drives the first display electrode in an addressing period by being controlled by the control/data processing unit. The second display electrode scan driving unit(55) drives the second scan electrode in the addressing period by being controlled by the control/data processing unit. And a common sustain driving unit(54) drives the second display electrode with a positive sustain voltage and a negative sustain voltage in turn in a sustain period by being controlled by the control/data processing unit.
