<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semi-automatic availability-assessment system and a method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: Firstly, hardware and operating system components and configuration information are extracted and an analysis of Markov-chain availability of all system hardware and an operating system is taken to provide a 1st intermediate result. Application-and-database-software components and configuration information are extracted from a questionnaire form along data and an evaluation of latent sources associated with a software component failure and a recovery rate, and other unexpected down-times and then put together to generate a 2nd intermediate result. When information associated with maintenance causing a deliberate system down time and other planned activities is extracted from a questionnaire form and put together as a 3rd intermediate result.
