FERRULE PROTECTOR AND METHOD OF FIXING THE FERULE PROTECTOR TO FERRULE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely position a ferrule protector with respect to a ferrule to prevent the end face of the protector from being damaged and stained and also to prevent the protector from falling off the ferrule. SOLUTION: The ferrule protector is equipped with a ferrule holding part 110 which is positioned with respect to a ferrule 300 and designed to hold the ferrule 300 inside. The devise is also equipped with an end face protecting part 120 which covers the end face 310 of the ferrule 300 held by the ferrule holding part 110 with a space secured at least between the protecting part and the area including the periphery where an optical fiber end face is exposed. A level difference exists between the ferrule holding part 110 and the end face protecting part 120. The side of the ferrule holding part 110 serves as an end face positioning stopper 111. The ferrule protector 100 containing these parts is formed out of a hard-to-deform member containing no volatile component such as metal. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
