A backplane contains a conductor and industrial controller components with conductor which conducts digital message and receives redundant signal of the input and output devices respectively. A safety protocol circuit enforces a communication protocol on message and indicate message error. The protocol circuit switches the industrial controller to predetermined safety state. An Independent claim is also included for component interconnection method of industrial controller.
