A light source, preferably a ceramic metal halide arc tube (10) is surrounded by a protective sleeve (16) comprising neodymium supported by a metal frame (24, 32). As a result of the sleeve (16), a lamp comprising such light source and sleeve (16) is observed to have improved emission of red color and to exhibit a CRI of at least about 90.
