A service providing system and method for providing services from a service server without supplying, to the service server, information that is important in terms of security. A CE device (1) transmits, to an authentication agency server (2), information required to authenticate a device ID and the like, and requests for a predetermined service. The authentication agency server (2) authenticates, based on the authentication information, the CE device (1) and transmits the result of the authentication to a service server (3). The service server (3) provides, to the CE device (1), the service requested for, based on the result from the authentication agency server (2). The CE device (1) utilizes the service provided from the service server (3). This system can be applied to the Web sales systems.
