PURPOSE: An image security system for protecting privacy and a method therefor are provided to protect personal privacy by modulating image data. CONSTITUTION: An image receiving unit(221) receives image data from a camera(210) connected with a digital video recorder. An image modulating unit(222) modulates the received image data by using a predetermined cryptographic algorithm to grasp outlines of an object constructing the modulated image data. A storage unit(223) stores the modulated image data. A display unit(224) reproduces the modulated image data. An image demodulating unit(232) restores the modulated image data into the received image data by using a decryption algorithm related to the predetermined cryptographic algorithm.
