A compression cache device for compressing external input data to be written in a line and reading the data from the line and decompressing the data as necessary to output the data to the outside, comprising at least one compressor which compresses the input data if the input data can be compressed, and outputs the result as the compressed data, at least one decompressor to decompress the compressed data, at least one compression line for storing the compressed data, at least one non-compression line which is a line for storing the input data, a write data selecting means for selecting the line to write the data therein according to a predetermined condition, and a read data selecting means for selecting the line to read the data therefrom according to a predetermined condition.
