The detection device uses accelerometers (S1,S2) which are set parallel to the vertical plane through the longitudinal or transverse axis of the vehicle, and at equal and opposite angles ( eta ) to the horizontal. When the vehicle is level the accelerometers indicate the same deviation from the actual transverse acceleration. When the vehicle is tilted the angle of tilt and hence the actual acceleration are determined from the sum and difference of the accelerometer signals. The angle of yaw can then be obtained reliably from the steering angle, transverse acceleration and road speed.
