Disclosed herein are a solid oxide fuel cell and a method for making the same. In one embodiment, the solid oxide fuel cell comprises: A solid oxide fuel cell, comprising: an electrolyte disposed between and in ionic communication with a first electrode and a second electrode, forming an electrochemical cell (10); a flow plate (25) disposed adjacent to and in electrical communication with at least a portion of the electrochemical cell (10); and a seal member sealably engaging the flow plate (25), wherein the seal member comprises a foam selected from the group consisting of a metal, a metal alloy, and combinations comprising at least one of the foregoing foams. In one embodiment, the method of manufacturing the solid oxide fuel cell, comprises: disposing a first electrode and a second electrode on opposite sides of a solid electrolyte (40); disposing a flow plate (25) adjacent to and in electrical communication with at least a portion of the electrochemical cell (10); and disposing the seal member in sealable engagement with the flow plate (25). |
