The invention relates to novel methods and kits for introducing a polypeptide having Cre recombinase activity into eukaryotic cells. The invention also relates to polypeptides having Cre recombinase activity and to a reporter system that, after polypeptides have been introduced into a corresponding cell, gives information about a successful DNA recombination. Lastly, the invention relates to kits for conducting and for detecting site-specific DNA recombination.
