An apparatus and method for high speed laser perforation of a web involving a web-bearing cylinder (12) receiving the web in a wrapped spiral pattern. The web-bearing cylinder includes a slit (16) along a circular circumference of the cylinder (12). A laser guiding tube (20) is provided for propogation of a laser beam within the web-bearing cylinder (12). An inner cylinder (24) is also provided in the web-bearing cylinder (12). The inner cylinder (24) has an axis, supports a reflecting mirror (26) adjacent to the laser guiding tube (20) to direct the laser beam in the slit (16) in the web-bearing cylinder (12), and is rotatable around the axis to adjust an orientation of the reflecting mirror (26) so as to direct the laser beam around the circular circumference of the web-bearing cylinder (12) in the slit (16). |
