Several rings of varied axial length are tensioned, one beside the other, radially outwards. Their lateral faces are clad with powdered molybdenum. Preferably, sections are in splut state and after being clad undergo rectification or similar treatment. Applications include piston ring manufacture. Advantages include improve wear resistance.
