Paper web moistening drum within a paper glazing process has highly porous mantle continually wetted by internal water spray

A paper industry web (12) moistening assembly (10) has a rotating drum (14) advancing the web around the highly porous hydrophilic coated (16) surface (18) of a drum (14). The drum inner surface is continually wetted by a water spray (22) which passes through the drum wall to moisten the web. The paper is on contact with the drum surface through a defined arc. The moistening drum (14) also serves as a guide drum. The water is sprayed under pressure which drives it at least part way through the drum mantle (18) wetting part of the inner surface. The drum inner surface is a perforated metal tube (20). Also claimed is a commensurate operating process.
