Minutiae extraction in a fingerprint image

The method involves dividing an image into regions, and defining an orientation based on the general direction of grooves in the region. The image along a direction perpendicular to the orientation is filtered unidirectionally. The barycenters of the grooves are located and chained up along a general direction based on an intensity of the filtering results and interpreted to determine a minutia. An Independent claim is also included for a system to extract minutia from a digital finger print image.
