The steering wheel lock for a motor vehicle has a casing (14,16) in which slides a bolt (50) with a locking finger (110) received in a seating of the steering output plate (34) of a rotary lock (18). The locking finger has a stop (64) which is carried by the bolt (78) on which it can pivot around a transverse axis (B) perpendicular to the axial sliding direction of the bolt. A return spring (84) biasses the finger into the seating.
