The system, comprising at least one supporting and traction cable (6, 7) for passenger cabins (10), forming a loop between departure and arrival stations, has an intermediate corner station (4) with a cable drive motor (15) and tensioner (16). The tensioner has pulleys which turn the cable from horizontal to vertical and a lower tensioning pulley with a counterweight. In a variant an additional force can be applied to the tensioning pulley by a power cylinder.
