Process for improving the effectiveness of diesel fuel injected into the exhaust gas pipe of an internal combustion (I.C.) engine in front of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst comprises converting the diesel fuel by partial cracking into an active form before conversion of the nitrogen oxides (NOx).
