SPOT-TYPE DISC BRAKE

A non-rotating brake carrier 2 supports a closed yoke frame 3 which embraces the edge of rotatable disc 1 and transmits actuating forces; a central opening of the yoke frame 3 accommodates an actuating appliance 4, 7 (as shown, a cylinder and piston) which has a reinforced part 10 at the end near the brake disc, which part is fixed between the arms 31 of the yoke frame extending over the brake disc 1; the actuating appliance is kept in place by the pressure of those arms upon the reinforced part; the forces produced during braking are transmitted from the actuating appliance to the frame arms through faces on the reinforced part 10 and the frame which abut on the side of the reinforced part remote from the disc. As shown, the ends of the front face 13 of the reinforced part 10 abut against projections 14, 15 of the two arms 31 of the yoke frame 3 to transmit braking forces. Also as shown, the distance between the end faces 11, 12 of the reinforced part 10 is chosen to be greater than the spacing between the corresponding surfaces of the arms 31 against which they engage; thus, when the actuating appliance is in position, the part 10 is in compression, and the "retaining tension " in the yoke frame 3 is thereby produced. Preferably, the brake cylinder 4 has projections 8 which embrace the frame and slots 9 which engage the frame; the cylinder can be inserted into its position from the centre of the frame. As shown, the yoke frame 3 is slidable on the brake carrier 2 in a direction parallel to the disc axis. The carrier 2 has recesses to accommodate brake pads 5, 6. The manner of attachment of the cylinder 4 prevents the brake from rattling. As shown, the reinforced part 10 is located so close to the part of the frame 3 which is guided on the carrier 2 that deformation of the yoke frame, under stress, in the region of the guiding parts is slight.
