1,239,872. Naphthostyril disperse dyes. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 27 June, 1969 [29 June, 1968; 8 March, 1969], No. 32737/69. Heading C4P. The invention comprises disperse dyestuffs of the general formula wherein R is H or an optionally substituted C 1 -C 5 alkyl group, X and Y are N, halogen, C 1 -C 5 alkyl, C 1 -C 5 alkoxy, C 1 -C 5 alkylmercapto, nitro or cyano and m and n are each integers of 1 to 3. They are prepared by reacting a naphthostyril compound of the general formula with an optionally substituted 2-cyano-methylbenzimidazole in an inert solvent in presence of a condensing agent preferably at 70- 130‹ C. Condensing agents used are phosphorus halides and oxy-halides and thionyl chloride and the solvent may be benzene, toluene, xylene, mono-, di- and trichloro-benzenes, nitrobenzenes or carbon tetrachloride. The dyes give yellow and orange shades on polyester, polyamide, polyurethane and cellulose ester fibres. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,155,905.
|
