Compositions for dyeing hair comprise an aqueous medium at pH 8 or below including at least one dye selected from acid dyes, premetallised acid dyes, direct dyes, disperse dyes, a salt which is a water-soluble electrolyte and is inorganic, an inorganic thickening agent, a detergent and a buffering agent. The detergent may be anionic, e.g. sodium lauryl ether sulphate or triethanolamine lauryl sulphate, at least 4% of salt, e.g. sodium and ammonium sulphate is preferred a levelling agent, e.g. a polypeptide may also be used the preferred buffering agents being acetic acid-sodium acetate and citric acid-sodium citrate.</p> |
