摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To safely run according to the liking or the condition by constituting a control mode to an inter-vehicle distance accordance to a vehicle speed and a control mode to a fixed inter-vehicle distance regardless of a vehicle speed capably of being selected, and forcedly selecting the vehicle speed corresponding inter-vehicle distance mode at low vehicle speed. CONSTITUTION:An actual inter-vehicle distance against a preceding vehicle is detected by a means 1, a vehicle speed is detected by a means 2, and a target inter-vehicle distance is set by a means 5. Operation beginning is detected by a means 3 and operation release is detected by a means 4. Further a vehicle speed corresponding inter-vehicle distance control mode or a fixed inter-vehicle distance control mode is selected by a means 6. Meanwhile, a vehicle speed namely a throttle is controlled by a means 8, and brake force is controlled by means 10, while controlling a gear position by a means 9. The gear position control means 9 is controlled by a controller 7. Namely, the optimum vehicle speed changing quantity is obtained based on difference between the computed or set inter-vehicle distance and the actual distance, and hence the device is controlled so as not to exceed the maximum allowable speed.</p>
