PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding method in which welding with an optimum welding condition can be executed even when the cross sectional shape of a groove part is different from each other at a plurality of welding parts. SOLUTION: The welding method is an automatic welding machine on which a plurality of welding robots capable of simultaneous welding at a plurality of the welding parts are provided. The method is so constituted that when the welding condition is decided according to the cross sectional shape at each welding part and in the case that the welding condition is related to a number of welding passes, the number of the welding passes is calculated by dividing the whole cross sectional area at each welding part with a previously set reference cross sectional area, and at the same time, a number of welding layers and the number of the welding passes at each welding layer are decided based on the number of the welding passes, and next, after the cross sectional area at each welding pass is calculated, the range of a welding current at each welding pass is calculated.
