PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for surely immobilizing a metal salt existing in the fine pores of a porous material in a dissolved state in the pores to introduce a metal component into the porous material. SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing glass through an operation for immobilizing the metal component into the porous material. This operation includes a process for causing a sol containing the metal salt to gelate, a process for immersing the resultant porous gel in a solution containing the same metal salt, and a process for precipitating and immobilizing an organic metal salt as microcrystals in the fine pores of the porous gel by immersing the porus gel in a solution containing at least one selected from organic acids and their salts.
