PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drag mechanism for a fishing spinning reel with smooth spool idle running, affording strong drag force and enabling fishline winding length despite making the diameter of a fishline winding element small. SOLUTION: The drag mechanism for the fishing spinning reel comprises a main shaft 2 mounted on a reel body, a spool 11 supported on the main shaft 2 via bearings 12a and 12b attached onto both ends respectively, a drag knob 15 attached onto the tip of the main shaft 2 and axially shiftable through the engagement with a screw provided on the main shaft 2, and a braking member attached on the tip side and/or base end side of the spool, wherein the braking member comprises brake plates 13a and 13b attached irrotatably onto the main shaft 2 and friction plates 14a and 14b interposed between the brake plates and the edge face of the spool. According to the axial position of the drag knob, the friction plates are nippedly pressed between the brake plates and the edge face of the spool by the pressing force via the edge face of the drag knob, thus the spool is subjected to braking force against its rotation.
