<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a higher durability of a face plate when welded and reduce the degree of the thermal deformation of the head and the steps in the post working of the welding. <P>SOLUTION: In the iron head which has the face plate 12 made of metal welded on the body 10 of the metal head, the joint border line LH between the side rim part of the face plate and the body of the head is positioned closer to the heel 10H on the front of the head. This portion is hollow as viewed from above or below the head and is so located as to little contact a golf ball GB in the relationship of curvature.
