PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the follow-up property of an owned vehicle to a target value in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control. SOLUTION: A distance between a preceding vehicle and the owned vehicle is detected by a distance sensor 37. A brake ECU 36 sets target acceleration/ deceleration in accordance with the distance, detects the actual acceleration/ deceleration of the owned vehicle and controls the drive of an actuator 5 using a pressurizing mode when the detected value exceeds the target value, a depressurizing mode when it is less than the target value, and a holding mode when it is within a holding range. The brake ECU 36 calculates a rate of change in the target value as a rate of change from a previous set value for the target acceleration/deceleration and changes the setting of the holding range depending on the rate of change in the target value.
