摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated hard metal cutting tool having a hard coated layer of excellent chipping resistance in heavy cutting processing. SOLUTION: This surface-coated hard metal cutting tool is formed by vapor- depositing a hard coated layer composed of an alternately multi-laminated layer of a first thin layer and second thin layer whose average thickness is 0.03-0.1μm on the surface of a tungsten carbide group hard metal base or a titanium carbonitride base cermet base with an overall average layer thickness of 0.8-10μm. The first this layer is composed of a titanium nitride layer, and the second thin layer is composed of a compound nitride layer of Ti and Al satisfying a composition formula: (Ti<SB>1-</SB>XAlX)N (in this formula, X indicates 0.30-0.50 in atomic ratio).
