<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coating agent for an inkjet recording medium capable of providing an excellent carrying characteristics on a recording apparatus and obtaining a recording image with a high gloss and a high resolution. <P>SOLUTION: A monomer composition (A) and another monomer composition (B) are composed by compounding (c) an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or its salt into at least one of two monomer compositions comprising (a) α- methylstyrene and/or (b) an alkyl (meth)acrylate of formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrogen atom or the like, and R<SP>2</SP>is a 1-22C aliphatic hydrocarbon group). The surface coating agent is prepared by polymerizing the monomer composition (A) and then, copolymerizing the monomer composition (B), and comprises a copolymer emulsion in which the difference between glass transition temperatures of a polymer prepared of the monomer composition (A) and a polymer prepared of the monomer composition (B) is ≥5°C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
