<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce user cost by performing proof print (test print) monochromatically by using a controller/engine capable of color output and to produce monochromatic/color outputs by single data transfer (from a computer). <P>SOLUTION: In a system having a proof print function, a proof print is outputted monochromatically and only a main print is outputted by color.
