PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: although an apparatus for cleaning water by electrolysis in which active anodes and cathodes in the shape of a solid round rod are arranged alternately at prescribed intervals in an electrolytic cell, and direct current voltage is applied between the anodes and the cathodes to electrolyze water in the electrolytic cell is known, since the change of the cross-sectional area directly changes resistance, it is impossible to enlarge the contact area with raw water by thickening the electrodes. SOLUTION: In an apparatus 1 for cleaning water by electrolysis, the anodes 3b and the cathodes 3c are formed in the shape of a hollow round rod. When the electrodes 3b and 3c are formed in the shape of the hollow round rod, the outside diameter becomes larger as compared with the solid round rod of the same cross-sectional area so that the surface area of the rod is increased to increase the contact area with the raw water W. Accordingly, the efficiency of the electrolysis is improved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
