1,230,661. Chlorobutadienes. PETRO-TEX CHEMICAL CORP. 6 March, 1968 [6 March, 1967], No. 10885/68. Heading C2C. 1- and/or 2-chlorobuta-1,3-diene are prepared by reacting one or more of 1,2-dichlorobutene, 2,3-dichlorobutane and 2-chloro-butene-1 with at least one quarter mol. of oxygen per mol. of said dichlorobutane or chlorobutene or mixtures thereof present, said reaction being conducted in the vapour phase, at a temperature of from 300‹ to 850‹ C. in the presence of (a) chlorine, bromine or iodine or mixtures thereof, or a compound capable of liberating chlorine, bromine or iodine or mixtures thereof, in such a concentration that there is at least 0.001 mol. of said halogen or halogens per mol. of said dichlorobutane or chlorobutene or mixtures thereof and that there is more than 1.25 mols. of oxygen per mol. of said halogen or halogens, and (b) a catalyst comprising one or more metals of Group IA or IIA of the Periodic Table or inorganic compounds or one or more of acetates, citrates or oxalates thereof; and one or more metals, or one or more inorganic salts, acetates, oxides or hydroxides of one or more metals, of Groups III B , V B , VI B or VIII or of copper or manganese.
