<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device and a liquid crystal display device which are superior in decorative property and function. <P>SOLUTION: Front light (a lighting device) 10 is provided with a bar light guide 13 with a light emitting element 15 installed on an end surface, and a light guide plate 12 guiding light from the light emitting element 15 from one side end surface 12a inside and then emitting the lighting propagated inside from an emitting surface 12b are provided. In the light emitting element 15, colored light is emitted.
