<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a business form reading method and a device capable of performing correctly character recognition on a space, regardless of deficiency of a business form to be subjected to scanning processing. <P>SOLUTION: In this business form reading method for reading characters printed or handwritten on a business form taken in an image form, a business form classification of the business form is determined. If determination of the business form classification is failed, a business form classification inputted manually is determined as the business form classification of the business form.
