PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical semiconductor device which is reduced in size, improved in the degree of freedom of a variety of designs, and suppresses an increase in manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The optical semiconductor device comprises metal members 10 and 12, a light emitting element 14 fixed on the metal members 10 and 12, a wiring board 17 fixed on sides of the metal members 10 and 12, a plurality of metal wirings 18 formed on the wiring board 17 extending from its one end to the other end, leads 20a to 20c each possessing a tip that is bent upright at a certain point and a prescribed number of bent faces, a photodetector 16 which is fixed on the prescribed bent face 21y to receive monitoring light emitted from the light emitting element 14, and wired 19a to 19c for electrically connecting either the light emitting element 14 or the photodetector 16 to the leads 20a to 20c.
